Ursula
Ursula is a 35” hanging sculpture. The double brass rods at the bottom are suggestive of chimes. Just above them, I placed a vintage Colony Glass plate to support a black teacup with an orange, green, and blue pattern in the china. Perched on the cup is a flower I made from brass sheet metal with blue and green papers adhered to one side. Just above that, I tied a sheer green ribbon—one of many I gathered during a recent trip to New York City. This vibrant green one adds a spark of life to the piece.
Higher still, I layered another brass flower with a rich green marbled paper I brought home from a wonderful store in Venice that makes gorgeous papers.
At the top, I added a blue bobeché, a candle cup, and brass strips that rise and curl with wire and coral beads. Winding through the structure is a painted ribbon of brass, circling like a climbing vine through the rods and flower. Two vintage cop shuttle bobbins hang from the rods, adding rhythm and balance to the composition.
